There is not a “one size fits all” solution when it comes to Alzheimer’s care, but usually caring for one patient requires an entire team of people: the family, a professional caretaker if possible, and the doctor.
However, something all Alzheimer’s patients need when it comes to their care is patience, love, and understanding: it is very difficult for them to make sense of what time is it now, who they are, or their memories. Just imagine how difficult that might be!
While it is not yet understood how Alzheimer’s “works” or what it does to the mind, numerous studies have observed that it tends to erase memories starting from the most recent ones. Your loved one might find themselves thinking they are 25 again and trying to go back to their old office or place of work, or asking where their spouses are even if they have been dead for years.
This poses a very complicated situation that has to be carefully assessed on the basis of each patient.
